Jump directly to the horoscopes.
What shape has your week taken? Could you see it by looking directly at it as it happened? Or do you find yourself getting a better view if you gaze at it indirectly, perhaps through the filter of looking backwards at it as you feel how its energy and messages are unfolding?
While the days leading up to and immediately after an eclipse can be filled with unexpected events, synchronicity, and spiritual lessons, sometimes an eclipse does not intersect directly with major features of one’s birth chart or life is simply too busy to fully notice and interpret the moments carrying the themes of the eclipse — let alone integrate them. It takes bandwidth, attention, and intention to clock it all, which is not always easy while we are actively in the moment — and in general those inner resources are hard to come by for many these days.

Which are a few reasons why I am offering these longer horoscope meditations on the Aug. 12 Leo New Moon and total solar eclipse now: heading into the weekend, you may have better ability to slow down, think back through your week, and collect the gold dust lingering at the edges of your awareness. (Scroll down.)
Confession: another reason is that despite spending a lot of time with this eclipse chart last month and writing down some great notes, I simply ran out of time and brain space to compose the horoscopes and essay I’d promised myself I’d offer before I went offline for a week to immerse in some soul-nourishing connection with a beloved community deep in the woods.
Writing these horoscopes the last two days, especially during the eclipse itself, has felt fruitful; I hope you find these fruits nourishing, and that they taste exactly like what the palate of your heart, psyche, and soul needed to savor as you process your week and move toward the second eclipse of this pair: the Pisces Full Moon and partial lunar eclipse on Aug. 28.
With luck I will be writing about that soon, but back to this week’s solar eclipse! In case you missed the details, the New Moon was exact Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 1:36 pm EDT in the 21st degree of Leo (20 degrees and 2 arc minutes), with the eclipse itself peaking about seven minutes later (though it did not reach totality where I live).
Elements of the eclipse chart that caught my attention (you can find the full chart at the very bottom of the page):
*** Tightly conjunct the Leo Sun and Moon was the asteroid Osiris (within nine arc minutes). Osiris is the Egyptian god whose wife, Isis, put him back together — twice — after he was killed by his jealous brother — twice. Astrologically, Osiris is putting a fine point on the themes of change (”death”) and transformation (”rebirth”) that all eclipses carry.
In the myth, the second time Isis reassembles Osiris, she is unable to find one of his body parts (the phallus). I see this as further underscoring the theme indicated by this New Moon eclipse’s proximity to the lunar south node: something falling away or disappearing. I think Osiris here is less about missing a phallus (or not needing it anymore, though I have not actually thought that through fully) and more about the ways we reconfigure ourselves and continue with life any time space opens up where we were not expecting it.
*** Mars in the chart is tightly conjunct the asteroid Ceres in Cancer (within the first degree of the sign — sensitive Aries Point personal/political territory). Mars and Ceres are sextile Chiron in Taurus. Actively nourishing, nurturing, and caring hold great potential for healing — and, I think, for self-teaching moments — in relation to this eclipse. That includes as eclipse effects continue to ripple out the next six to twelve months.
*** Although the Leo Sun and Moon were not in contact with the famous/infamous “basket” configuration of outer planets, their current sign-mates in Leo, Mercury and Jupiter, are (though Jupiter is separating). In fact, Mercury in this chart was precisely aligned with Venus in Libra and Uranus in Gemini during the eclipse, with Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius still within resonant proximity. This week’s “eclipse moment” is connecting your personal unconscious and conscious experience to the current zeitgeist of energetic and tangible changes unfolding in our shared cultural and global background.
I found myself particularly interested in the Mercury-Venus-Uranus connection. To me it speaks of emotional/relational receptivity and grace (Venus) connecting with surprising insights (Uranus), with an unusually high potential to land intellectually (Mercury) and inspiringly (Leo being a fie sign). Not a bad relay to have accompanying an eclipse, imo.
*** The Sabian symbol for the degree 21 Leo, from Dane Rudhyar’s interpretations:
“Intoxicated chickens dizzily flap their wings trying to fly”
Rudhyar’s keynote:
“The often-negative and at times ludicrous first experience with spiritual teachings.” His final summary phrase: “premature expansion of consciousness.”
When I read Rudhyar’s full commentary for Leo 21, one of the cultural examples that came to my mind as I studied this chart, given the outer-planet configuration, was how it seemed nearly everyone this spring and summer who was posting astrological content on social media hyped the outer-planet basket configuration far beyond reason.
Yes, it is a very cool and fairly unusual configuration.
Yes, I do think it has a lot to tell us about the changes our world is going through — though we’ll likely see it all more clearly a few years (or decades) down the line, even as some astrologers are surely nailing its significance now.
Yes, I suspect people with major personal chart features in direct contact with planets in the basket may be experiencing striking changes and manifestations of it.
But astrology is all about potentials that may or may not manifest. And I don’t go for “mass enlightenment” interpretations or predictions. I think those who make such claims are painting with too broad a brush, are being spiritually lazy, and run the risk of disempowering people from working more deeply with their initiative, life lessons, soul karma, and self-awareness.
In other words, as excited as I was to see the basket configuration (truly! It looks super-cool!) and to explore its possible interpretations, I was and am distrustful of excess hype.
Every year has its own “big astrology,” which may be “unprecedented” or very rare and unusual. Every time, those events — on a personal level especially, but also on a collective level — come down to: the choices we are making; the actions we are (or are not) willing to take; our perspective, world-view, past experiences, and models for behavior and relating; whether we are resourced enough to devote energy, time, and bandwidth to self-reflection; and whether we have the curiosity, support, desire, and courage to use what we learn.

I love writing horoscopes for eclipses: the enhanced potential these events describe (at least, according to my astrology mentors and my own experiences) feels especially vibrant and rich. I also recognize there’s a fine line between interpreting that potential in a way that is inspiring, reassuring, and empowering…and spinning hype like a drunk chicken.
My wish for you is that, as you read these interpretations for your rising sign and Sun sign (maybe check out your Moon sign, too), you experience enough resonance and recognition to feel empowered in how you reflect on, interpret, and learn from your experiences during this eclipse month — be they dramatic and powerful or subtle and gentle.
As always, I offer these writings in service to the highest good of all. Let me know how it all lands.
With love,
Amanda
If I can support you through the current changes and uncertainty with an astrological consultation or some soul work sessions, please get in touch.
Also: I recommend reading for your rising sign in addition to your Sun sign — you can even experiment with reading for your Moon sign. Please comment or message me if you’d like help finding out what your rising sign is or why it matters.
Horoscopes for the August 12, 2026, Leo New Moon and Total Solar Eclipse
If you enjoy these horoscopes, please consider leaving me a tip here as a form of energy exchange. I offer this writing as a gift, but it does take considerable time and energy. Thank you!
ARIES — Have you been feeling your urge to play or your capacity for creativity or romance expanding in new ways? If not (or if you’re not sure), don’t worry: you’re still early in a full year’s worth of opportunities to enjoy more adventures, to express yourself, and to enhance your relationship with your children if you have any. Even so, the Aug. 12 eclipse is indicating that something in these areas of your life needs to fall away (perhaps a matter of pride?) for your energy to come through unfettered — and for you to enjoy the higher degree of ease and self-knowledge you stand to reap from all the fun.
As much as you enjoy attention, it’s not the same as feeling exposed, and something about how you’re able to express your vitality is changing in ways that may not be entirely in your control. Yet this vulnerability is the key to the deeper, inner openings where emotional and spiritual growth occur. Pleasure is wonderful, and is a genuinely worthy end to itself. But at key moments like this one, the soul longs for more, and yours is asking you to shed something to make room for what’s next.
Note that to lay a helpful foundation for this release and transition, you may find it useful to engage in some active self-parenting — especially in relation to how “at home” you feel currently, in yourself or in your living situation. A partner or friend embodying grace or your ideals around balanced relationship is likely reflecting another useful piece of the puzzle back to you.

TAURUS — What does it really mean to open your home to someone? Being a lover of fine things, comfort, and ownership, you might tend to think of it as being able to set a lovely table with the tastiest, highest quality food and making sure your guest sleeps on ultra-high threadcount sheets. But what if you substitute the word “heart” for “home” in that first sentence? Do material forms of “welcoming” fall away in favor of sincere, generous, and warm connection and vulnerability?
It appears that in some way the Aug. 12 eclipse has momentarily blotted out the showier, pride-based tendencies (or ego-based fears) you have with regard to your literal home. More importantly, I see a disruption to the underlying messages about what it means to feel secure that you’ve been carrying around since childhood. You are likely more attached to that early conditioning than you admit. Has an unexpected event this week highlighted a split in your values, or has an unconscious insight filtered through as you de-cluttered your living space?
Let this new awareness help you recognize just how much you have — and how little it costs you to share it. An emotional habit inherited from one or both parents is ready die and be reborn as something more spacious, bolder, and truer to who you are becoming on a deep, soul level. Go about your week doing everything beautifully — not as a social mask, but as a devotion to the kind of security that can only come through an openly shared heart.
*
GEMINI — Have you felt a strong urge to make some space for yourself this week? This might look like clearing away objects in your immediate environment, removing obligations from your schedule, or simply taking a few extra minutes before launching into your day. Even if you’ve felt energized by various social and creative activities, I recommend you set aside some intentional time to make a quick sweep of unnecessary or out-of-place items in the area around you. Then check in with yourself. Your charts describe a lot of mental activity and communication this month, and all year. Yet the Aug. 12 eclipse described a shift in tone.
Specifically, it appears a habitual mental posture or attitude has reached the end of its useful life cycle. You may be proud of how you have cultivated this way of thinking and expressing yourself, which is not an easy thing to disentangle. Hence making some space and time, so you feel free to take ideas apart and put them back together — without any pressure to articulate your process to others before you understand what it means and how you feel about it. (Though as a Gemini, talking it through with your favorite listener or in writing may help.)
Once you’ve sorted things out, you may find it even easier than before to synthesize and translate several evolving areas of your life with balance, creativity, and kindness. Change can be confusing and disorienting. But when the heart speaks rather than the ego, there’s a higher chance all involved will hear clearly.
*
CANCER — Take a moment to write down your answers to these two questions: What about yourself are you most proud of? What about yourself are you least proud of? I ask because the Aug. 12 eclipse appears to be highlighting one or both of these questions. Or, rather, it may be softening the contrast between your answers so you can see how they’re connected. Many people struggle to take ownership of certain faults; many struggle to claim their talents and full worth. I think most people navigate both sides of that equation, to some degree, at various times in life — and also discover things they have been carrying (values and beliefs, pain, emotional burdens, and so on) that are not truly theirs.
This eclipse is giving you an opportunity to see something you’ve been holding on to — whether out of loyalty, pride, or even guilt or shame masquerading as love — whose value has run out. However, rather than trying to just “let it go,” which can bring up fears and grief around loss, what if you try alchemizing this leaden, base material into gold? As in, let your new awareness empower you to synthesize a new value or sense of worth that’s truer to who you’re becoming.
Depending on your circumstances, either some quality solo time or proactively embodying your most caring, nourishing nature toward others will support the process. However you get there, what you transmute this week should position you to draw in valuable resources and benefits this year — and trust that you’re worth it.
*
LEO — Have you ever cleaned a thick layer of dust off a light fixture, and been astonished by how dramatically everything around you is brighter and easier to see? In that scenario, the debris blocking the light accumulated gradually, making it hard to notice its increasing effect. Yet you were able to clear it and renew the light’s brightness with one brief, focused action. The Aug. 12 total solar eclipse in your sign could have a similar effect, especially if you bring your attention to recent shifts in your self-awareness — namely, any insights you have not declared publicly yet.
Here’s the trick to working this energy, though: you’ll need to release the attachment you have to who you — or anyone else — thinks you are. You likely tend to frame this as “loyalty” or “steadfastness,” which are admirable traits in appropriate circumstances. Unfortunately, loyalty to an outdated idea or persona can also block growth. Don’t worry: you’re not “dying” and you were not “wrong” to be who you have been. You’re simply getting an opportunity to catch up and notice the dusty film that has accumulated through years of living, and then clarify how everything you’ve been learning along the way has been shaping you, little by little, underneath it all.
As you synthesize what is shifting within you and in the people closest to you, don’t be surprised if you can suddenly see how to put together all of your familiar and beloved parts in a new way. You will discover it allows you shine brighter and truer than ever.
*
VIRGO — Have you been experiencing more unexpected frustrations and unintended consequences than usual, even though Mercury has been direct for weeks? Currently you have significant planetary activity in your chart’s biggest blind spot, which can describe feeling blindsided by unconscious needs and desires — although timely intuitive insights and uncanny dream messages often get sprinkled in. Luckily for you, that blind-spot activity has been finding such outlets as: an insistent mandate to fundamentally change your approach to health, work, and service; opportunities for greater honesty about the wealth, power, and resources you’re sharing (and with whom); and unexpected professional opportunities provoking you toward something closer to “life’s purpose” rather than just “goals.”
By all measures, your conscious awareness is starting to get the message. And the Aug. 12 eclipse suggests you can help it along by tuning in more intentionally to what’s flowing versus where you feel stuck. Is anything in your experience reminding you of a time when you stayed loyal to someone long after their actions demonstrated an obvious lack of fidelity or devotion in return?
If you’re not sure, and if you find meditation challenging, try doing something mindless while you ponder the question. You’re primed to sense the inherent beauty and value in reciprocal exchanges of resources now. This eclipse is just the disruption your unconscious needs to shake loose and dispose of an attachment ripe for transfiguration.
*
LIBRA — You’re in a year of expanding your already strong and varied social networks. Yet one or more of these contexts, or your role in it, is ready to shift. Contemplating a change like this can be challenging: you like to be liked and you value smooth relationships. But even the most extraverted Libra only has so much time and bandwidth. And not every committee, cause, or social circle will stay aligned with your ideals and objectives forever, especially if you’re continually learning and evolving. The Aug. 12 eclipse has asked you to look carefully at your pride and loyalty regarding your community roles, and to sort out your genuine love for these people from habitual attachments.
You must get very clear on what can fade to the background and make space to accommodate all that you’re attracting — and reaching for — this year. With more wiggle room to reassemble the interlocking pieces, you’ll ensure you don’t burn out on outdated loyalties — which could prevent you from offering your gifts in ways that are truer to who you are becoming.
Regardless whether a specific individual relationship is inspiring or confusing you lately (likely both), stay tuned in to your own inner sense of equilibrium. This will make it much easier to synthesize and dance with the ongoing changes in several areas of your life.
*
SCORPIO — You are in a year of burnishing your professional reputation to a high gloss as you reach for loftier goals and expand into new roles. Yet you might have felt a need with the Aug. 12 eclipse to take a closer look at some idea of “life’s purpose” that you have been loyal to for a long time. Is that guiding light still shining as brightly as it once did? If your answer is yes, notice what new ways your daily work-life balance and certain matters of household security or financial investment could better facilitate your mission. However, it’s also possible you’re experiencing the amplification of some challenges, sore spots, or unresolved issues regarding your sense of standing, power, or direction (particularly in your career).
No matter which scenario fits closer to your life, look closely this week for some facet of “who you’ve always thought you should be in the world” that needs to fade away so you can radiate who you are. You’ll feel some feelings about this. But trust you’re opening up space for treasure to flow your way.
I can’t promise that “treasure” will be worldly fame and fortune. It’s more like putting on your spiritual reading glasses for a clearer look at your soul contract’s fine print: you stand to reap ever more heart-based alignment, courage, and support when you can read the terms and conditions that unlock your benefits. Actively nourishing your philosophical side and your love of distant shores should help ease in new levels of perspective, grounding, security, and partnership in the process.
*
SAGITTARIUS — Every other talking head on the internet these days is touting their own magical method to achieve spiritual enlightenment. But even if you seek and find the most authentic, well-trained ayahuasca guide, meditation guru, breathwork facilitator or [insert your preferred guide/substance/practice here], that doesn’t automatically guarantee your consciousness-expanding experience will land any better than a chicken trying to fly after drinking a fifth of tequila. Yet the Aug 12 eclipse is taking place in the part of your chart most closely associated with spiritual seeking, the so-called “higher self,” and anything that can broaden your awareness beyond your individual experience.
How to reconcile this? Apparently you’ve stayed loyal to a worldview or personal philosophy past its expiration date. It has been keeping you small, and this year you’re being asked to focus your energy higher, wider, and further off. Here’s a hint: rather than chasing “spiritual experiences” and altered consciousness this week, simply notice anything and anyone that disrupts your understanding, challenges your perceptions, and inspires your creativity.
Those encounters do not automatically mean others are right or you’re wrong. They simply indicate a new shoreline, horizon, or continent for you to explore. Literal long-distance travel may be another way in. Continually integrating what you learn in the process is the real “enlightenment.”
*
CAPRICORN — You remember in the film Pulp Fiction how the characters who open the briefcase get illuminated by a golden glow from inside, but the contents stay a secret despite their apparent power in the story? For you, the Aug. 12 eclipse is operating a similar way: something of great value has the power to transform your circumstances, but you’ve kind of kept it a secret (maybe even from yourself) and you may not want to let go of it or share it when you realize what it is — even though that’s part of the deal. Letting it go is the only way you’ll get to inherit its benefits.
You have brave, compassionate Leo in the part of your chart where surrender and transformation are most available to you, which should help. Yet Leo here also suggests pride sometimes gets in the way of that. What if I tell you this eclipse describes an old “soul contract” finally completing? This contract could be with another person…or simply with a way of being. You likely feel tremendous loyalty to whatever or whomever you are bound to, and it may seem that an element of self-respect is on the line if you question it. That’s your cue to take time to understand what’s really at stake.
You have striking potential to draw abundance your way this year — be it in the form of literal money, emotional and sexual connection, or a deeply regenerative experience. But to recognize it and receive it requires opening up space for it to land — which can feel vulnerable. Luckily all the diligent work you’ve been doing around your home, parental issues, and your sense of security is about to manifest some ease that will support the transformation underway.
*
AQUARIUS — Partnerships, and your understanding of them, have been in high focus lately — rather like the volume getting turned up as your favorite love song plays, or a golden ray of late-afternoon sunlight falling across a favorite person’s face. When things are going well, those moments make us glow. When we’ve recently experienced a breakup, clash with an adversary, or are in a long, lonely dry spell, such amplification doesn’t feel so shiny.
Whatever your current status with lovers, platonic friends, or even business partners, it appears several other facets of your life have been shifting simultaneously. That can feel disorienting. Now, however, the Aug. 12 eclipse describes the space of 1:1 relationships opening up in some way. To return to the imagery I started with, think of it like suddenly hearing clearly a lyric that you’d always misheard in your favorite love song. Do you hold on to the misconception, or do you allow your new understanding of the lyrics to deepen, illuminate, and reshape what the song means to you?
Despite your penchant for self-reinvention, big changes from the people closest to you can still be destabilizing, as can their responses to your own current path of evolution. Luckily a curtain is drawing aside now, so you can see your relationships in a brighter, warmer light — while still softening the edges of the shadows. This is setting you up to receive so much more from the people you connect with.
*
PISCES — Whether you’ve mastered the ever-elusive “work-life balance” or you fully surrendered to serving the world creatively with your entire existence long ago, your health and day-to-day routines are insisting on your attention. Possibly you are enjoying some well-deserved recognition, extra energy, and ease; just as possibly this year may be magnifying where you have been overextending and over-committing yourself.
In either instance, some matter of health and/or work in which you take immense pride is ready to change shape. You may even need to move on from it entirely to enjoy full vitality — a prospect which could bring up a lot of emotion, and you would do well to give those feelings some room for processing and release. You put your whole heart into your acts of dharma and service, which is a virtue — and also the reason why some reconfiguration is in order now: overconfidence that you can “do everything you’ve always done” might be incompatible with the ways you’re being called to evolve this season.
You’re no stranger to shape-shifting. But the Aug. 12 eclipse suggests you pause to notice in stark relief the values, home situations, financial investments, and individual relationships (sexual and platonic) that have been changing this year, and fully clock how they’re all related. Once you do, you may have an easier time identifying — and allowing — the reset or course-correction available now.
