I’m writing this right in the pocket of the Pisces New Moon, which was exact at 7:45 pm EST tonight (Feb. 27). Since the last New Moon four weeks ago, life in the U.S. has felt like someone’s picked up the whole country and been shaking it hard. We’re still waiting to see where all the pieces land — and how many of those pieces might be broken beyond repair.

Amidst the chaos and fear, we have this curious New Moon. I say “curious” mainly because it is square Jupiter in Gemini: by all accounts a fairly “beneficial” square. Squares are not known for “feeling good” most of the time. More often they represent intense internal pressure and a need to take some action to reconcile it. Jupiter, however, tends to mitigate that sensation.

Additionally, New Moons are not known as big “action events,” though they’re typically seen as prime moments to seed future action through intention setting and reflection. Which brings me to the initial thoughts I had when I looked at this chart:

Dreaming big and envisioning best-case scenarios could easily be a way of avoiding reality. But it doesn’t have to be. In fact, this Pisces New Moon suggests it’s an essential way to keep your heart open in hell.

It’s absolutely crucial to see what is going on around you for what it is. Being prepared for the worst means looking at the facts of a situation, assessing what you can control, change, or influence, and then taking thoughtful action. Yet we also need to stay in touch with the things in our lives that offer an opportunity to connect with others, and with a glimmer of faith.

The Pisces symbol is two fish bound together yet swimming in opposite directions. We have the same task before us: to be fully present with reality while still fully in touch with our soul.

I see this as spiritual self-preservation, not a means of escapism. A little escapism in the form of self-care can be a lifesaver; too much of it cuts us off from our volition and sense of agency in our lives.

I think all of this will come in handy when the first eclipse of the upcoming pair arrives on March 14. That will be a total lunar eclipse with the Virgo Full Moon, and it’ll be in conversation with Uranus in Taurus, which describes opportunity through the unexpected.

The second eclipse of the pair arrives on March 29: a partial solar eclipse with the Aries New Moon. In between now and then we have Venus stationing retrograde in Aries March 1, and then Mercury stationing retrograde in Aries on March 15, just one degree off from where Venus stationed. Both planets will backtrack into Pisces. Then Neptune leaves Pisces and makes its first foray into Aries the day after the second eclipse, on March 30.

That’s a lot of water and fire combining in various ways. I expect it to be pretty steamy. But steam has its uses, given an adequate container. And there are ways you can help prepare the container of your inner being to move with all that energy. The horoscopes below are designed to help you do just that.

One last note: I sometimes check Dane Rudhyar’s version of the Sabian symbols for astrological events (the Sabians are a set of 360 channeled symbols, one for each degree of the zodiac). The symbol for the degree of tonight’s New Moon (10 Pisces) is, “An aviator pursues his journey, flying through ground-obscuring clouds.”

Rudhyar’s keynote on the symbol reads, “Man’s ability to develop powers and skills which by transcending natural limitations allow him to operate in mental-spiritual realms.”

It’s really hard to see the ground right now. The fog of upheaval and the unknown is thick. But if you’re reading this, chances are you’re in the process of developing inner skills that can help you navigate through it.

None of us is doing it alone. That might be the most important Pisces-style reminder of this New Moon.

With love,

Amanda

P.S. If I can support you through the current changes and uncertainty with an astrological consultation or some soul work sessions, please get in touch. Pisces New Moon / Early March Horoscopes

You’re invited to read for both your Sun sign and your rising sign. If you’re not sure what your rising sign is or how to find it, you’re welcome to contact me.

ARIES — As much as your sign is identified with cut-and-dried direct action, your deeper motivations are often much less clear to you. I’m not talking about what you want — that’s something you can usually articulate well. I’m referring to the factors just beneath consciousness that seed your psyche, your desires, and your reactions. Sometimes these energies come through constructively. Other times they trip you up. Currently you’re in a phase when this hard-to-know facet of yourself is busier than usual. Whether that means you’re having the weirdest dreams at night or out-of-left-field responses during the day, I see a potential avenue for navigating this New Moon. The more you can actively write down or speak aloud every insight, impression, dream image, uncharacteristic behavior, or “inner voice” that surfaces the next few weeks, the more clear your trail of breadcrumbs will become. This will not only help you to know yourself better. It will also prepare the ground for a shift in your day-to-day work — and how you serve your purpose — in a couple of weeks.

TAURUS — Let “networking” be your mantra this month. But don’t get hung up on some dated, corporate-type image of schmoozing at industry events and trading business cards. Online equivalents, such as LinkedIn and “I’ll follow you if you follow me!” type tactics, are equally limited. I’m talking about sincere, creative, empathetic connections that are directly informed by your most deeply held principles — and by the talents and resources you have to offer. The world has been changing rapidly lately. So have you. And in a couple of weeks that inner evolution could turn the ignition key of some significant new updates. This will dare you to let your full creative power express publicly. That, in turn, will feel safer, more fun, and more aligned with your sense of purpose and dharma if you start identifying “your people” now and begin dreaming actively with them. With this New Moon, listen carefully for who’s already on your wavelength or making an invitation, and try to tighten your typical response time. Don’t be surprised to find yourself reaching out to former contacts later in the month. They likely have something valuable to offer.

GEMINI — Henry David Thoreau once wrote, “Be resolutely and faithfully who you are; be humbly what you aspire to be.” Consider writing that down and keeping it handy this month. Time is ripe for you to reach for a professional goal, and energy is gathering in this area of your chart. Some of that energy is likely showing up as people who are supporting you or inspiring you to go for it. At the same time, an authority figure or obligation may seem to be calling the shots. Though that might feel limiting, use the dynamic to your advantage: let it help you focus your efforts where they’ll count the most. Doing so should help create a useful framework you can lean on in a few weeks, when the connection between your goals and your sense of security comes into high focus. With this New Moon, notice any situations where your eagerness to take up space and be fully yourself is creating tension. Resolving to understand why, and to know yourself better, is a key to pursuing your aspirations graciously and faithfully.

CANCER — I’m seeing an important connection between the watery parts of your chart right now. Here are three questions to help you slip into its flow more consciously: 1. What’s motivating you most strongly right now? 2. Are you tending your deep well of creativity with playfulness, or does it feel like a “duty”? 3. Is it taking more discipline than usual (or better boundaries) to engage with some matter of “broadening your horizons” that you typically take for granted? (Perhaps a spiritual or educational practice?) It would be easy to get caught up in the undercurrent of emotions associated with your answers. However, the New Moon is making an invitation. It’s asking how far you want to travel, whether literally or figuratively. That is, what do you most need to learn? Consider that no matter where you go or what topic you study, ultimately you learn more about yourself along the way. Who you are grows in the process. This growth is a form of healing that will serve you well in the coming weeks.

LEO — Who are you most invested in? Besides close partners and any children you may have, I would imagine you included yourself. If not, this New Moon is an opportunity to rectify that oversight. I realize there may be several people with whom your life is inextricably entwined currently. If that’s the case, you may feel some pressure to reconcile your social life with the obligations of your more enmeshed relationships. By all means give this attention, especially in the case of joint finances, since money affects how free you feel socially. However, on another level I think you’re being called strongly to investigate deeper needs, desires, and even compulsions. While this is typical for you every year around now, this year there seem to be a few extra moving parts (that is, emotions) to get a better grip on. Later in the month, when you may be called to align your values and finances more closely, this enhanced self-understanding will be key.

VIRGO — Notice who is showing up in your life this month, and how: are they offering ideas and inspiration, or some TLC? Is a certain amount of limitation or responsibility required currently to keep a particular relationship healthy? Who is feeding you (literally or figuratively), and whose presence is a reminder to keep careful boundaries? As much as you love to give and do for others, all relationships thrive on some amount of reciprocal give and take — though the exchange need not be even-Steven, or even happen in the same form or timeframe. The more willing and able you are to tend and receive from your one-to-one relationships now, the more energy you’ll have on tap to serve your more worldly life’s calling or your career. This is another area of high focus for you currently. Yet your calling and your relationships are not mutually exclusive by any means. Events of the next few weeks will likely bring these dynamics to the forefront even more.

LIBRA — You seem to have put something in motion recently that furthers your reach on a public or professional stage. Yet what if I told you it’s actually rooted in your deep need to be of service to others, rather than your goals of personal gain or recognition? What or who do you feel you may be serving in the process? As you consider those questions, notice who is showing up to help you get the work done. Your colleagues and collaborators may lighten the load, but it’s still up to you to do the work in a way that’s sustainable for you. In fact, this New Moon may be urging you to expand your idea of what constitutes “efficient” or “effective” work. As a Libra, you already know how happy “beautiful” and “balanced” work makes you. What if all four of those terms essentially boil down to the same thing? You’re about to revisit how this works for you, and what it means for your favorite topic: your relationships. Track your discoveries in the weeks to come.

SCORPIO — You have a touch of the “cosmic mother” to you (regardless of your gender). That is, you have a strong sense of what it means to care for people as though they’re kin, and feel great injustice when others don’t. This isn’t just empathy; it’s more like a spiritual and philosophical mandate for you. You may feel like you’ve been treading water in your ability to function in that role, but the current is picking up again. As you slip back into this flow, you may start to see how your hard work and devotion are benefitting certain creative projects (including literal children or a romance). This process is also changing how you see yourself, and how you show yourself to others — known as growth. Now this New Moon is offering an opportunity to pool resources with somebody in a mutually beneficial way. However, doing so requires you to acknowledge the ways that you are changing. Giving yourself a moment to feel into that on your own first could be helpful. It may even be a source of delight, which might feel hard-won or even illicit given the state of the world. Embrace it, and let it fuel you in the coming weeks.

SAGITTARIUS — Your attention appears to be focused on your sense of “home” right now. In literal terms, you may be noticing that something needs a more creative approach in your domestic space so you can feel more comfortable in it. If you live with others, you may be especially aware of everyone’s diverse needs. This makes it all the more essential to understand your own needs and to articulate them directly, rather than sacrifice them preemptively. On a related note, it appears you’re ready to see some emotional material from your past more clearly; specifically familial influences from childhood that have shaped your sense of safety and belonging in your personal life. Given the current social chaos, it is no small achievement to feel “at home” in one’s life. Yet this New Moon is inviting you to keep moving through any fog surrounding your sense of inner security. One relationship in particular appears to be nudging you helpfully. The more you can clarify and sort through in this realm now, the stronger you’ll feel should you need to make important changes in your professional life in a few weeks.

CAPRICORN — Others often think of Capricorns first in terms of their concrete and tangible work. Perhaps you do, too. Yet you actually have a strongly intuitive side. It is the wellspring for all the creative ideas that inspire the things you build. Just like a New Moon, it’s mostly an internal process. However, ideas have a way of multiplying and morphing in productive ways when we talk (and listen!) to others, and chances are you’re feeling an urge to get out and about for some stimulating conversations. Even working elsewhere in the neighborhood this month should help, if your job is portable. The idea is to broaden the field of your day-to-day activities and the people you’re able to connect with. This will benefit your overall wellbeing, particularly your mental health. Over the next few weeks it will also set you up for two things. One is a review of how specific family relationships tend to shape your interactions and how you think about them. The second is the potential to shed the more dogmatic facets of your personal philosophy. Your world may widen as a result.

AQUARIUS — For months you’ve been tasked with restructuring your income and other resources to better match your values. Lately this has included pinpointing and stopping some leaks — including shifts in how you spend your energy. With that process well in hand, you can afford yourself some time with this New Moon to check in on your progress. “What’s next” may not be terribly clear presently. But “what is” should be — and you have the means and the motivation to express it fully. In fact, you have a direct line between what you possess or hold dear, and several options for how to share it with others. Feeling free to do that relates to how you’ve been navigating the occasional (yet significant) disruptions to the parts of your life you count on for a sense of “safety.” I suspect you’ve made great strides in relocating the source of your security from something that others “give you” to something more in your control — such as a more embodied self-awareness. The inner agility this understanding provides should come in handy in the coming weeks, and long after.

PISCES — “I contain multitudes” is a bit cliché at this point. We all know that we’re multifaceted beings. As a Pisces, you likely feel this quite palpably: not only in the many ways you like to express yourself, but also in just how much you sense about everyone else you encounter. With this New Moon, it looks like you’re marshaling all your inner multitudes, gathering strength from all the ways you can show up in the world (even when you’d rather escape it). I think I see why: you’re being called to expand your sense of being “at home” here — on planet Earth, in daily life, within your own skin, within your story, and in this profoundly strange and unsettling moment of history. You have some specifically Piscean work to do here at this time. By the end of the month, you will be called to stretch into previously unknown territory. You’ll know it when you see it (or feel it), and you’ll be ready to own it. Until then, let “know thyself” be your mantra, and let others appreciate those multitudes within instead of hiding them.
