Tonight’s lunar eclipse opens the portal to “The Eclipse Zone.” That is, the two weeks between a pair of eclipses, which can often feel a bit like a time warp: strangely compressed, with life somehow distinctly different on the other side. That said, YMMV, since not all eclipses will interact with your birth chart in a direct or highly personal way. (Scroll way down if you want to read the horoscopes first.)

This one features the Moon in late Virgo opposite the Sun in late Pisces. The Full Moon is exact at 2:55 am EDT Friday — so basically overnight tonight into tomorrow morning — with the eclipse peaking about four minutes later. It should be visible in the U.S. if your local weather permits.

The signs Virgo and Pisces are two of the mutable signs (Gemini and Sagittarius are the other two). All mutable signs come at the end of a season. They’re a natural transition time.

In Maine, that transition time is called mud season. Melting snow and chilly rains are feeding the streams that all join in the sea (Pisces). Along the way this water meets earth (Virgo), making mud. It can be a messy process, but one that also prepares the ground for new growth.

Kind of like eclipses.

The second eclipse of the current pair will happen in the fire sign Aries: first sign of the zodiac, first sign of Northern Hemisphere spring, and the first sign of initiative and new growth.

I’ll be writing more about that second eclipse soon, along with how it’s directly connected with the Venus and Mercury retrogrades that overlay this eclipse season, and which offer a layer of review on top of the shifts described by the eclipses.

(HEADS UP: Mercury stations retrograde this Saturday, March 15, at 1:46 am EDT. Though an astrologer friend of mine who studies Mercury’s cycle closely expects the time around Mercury’s station direct to be more volatile.)

For now, I want to focus on this process of dissolving that leads to new life and new form, in addition to the season loosening its grip.

Eclipse pairs always include a Full Moon that’s a lunar eclipse and a New Moon that’s a solar eclipse (occasionally there’s a third partial eclipse). So there’s always a two-part process involved: a release of something as the Full Moon lunar eclipse builds up and then resolves, and then reorientation on a new direction or pattern as the New Moon solar eclipse closes the cycle and opens us to a new one.

An eclipse across Virgo and Pisces, with their inherent seasonal “loosening” function, is perhaps an even stronger invitation to loosen our grip on something and let it melt away. The space it once held becomes even more pliable, adaptable to the needs and desires we’ve been growing into.

Depending on what has outlived its purpose and is ready to be washed away, this process can come with some grief. Please be gentle with yourself if feelings of this sort come up. They deserve your space, care, and attention. On the other hand a sense of liberation and energizing lightness could come through as you shed what’s been weighing you down.

Even without an eclipse, every Full Moon represents a peak of energy, sometimes in the form of a confrontation or stalemate, and then its resolution. Consider asking yourself:

What is peaking or coming to a head in my life?

Who am I meeting / what am I confronting in this moment?

What do I want to resolve?

Eclipses are not about powering through and using your will to dominate your circumstances. They are about articulating your desires and intentions so you can guide your choices in that direction. Then you can let the opportunities that appear, and their momentum, carry you forward along the energy wave and its flow.

Surfing and paddling a kayak down rapids both offer useful images: look ahead through the building wave or the turbulent current to where you want to be; move consciously to align yourself with the flow of energy, rather than against it.

I hope to have additional detailed thoughts about tonight’s eclipse chart later today, if the energy wave keeps me moving in that direction!

I will note that the Virgo Full Moon and Pisces Sun are precisely (within only five arc minutes) in contact with Uranus in Taurus, adding a flavor of the unexpected coming through in supportive ways. There are other fascinating planets and solar system objects in contact with the Full Moon, but Uranus is the most precise major factor, and the ingredient I’ve leaned on most in the horoscopes below.

You’re invited to read them for your rising sign in addition to your Sun sign. Please comment or message me if you’d like help finding out what your rising sign is!

With love as we enter the eclipse zone,

Amanda

Horoscopes for the Virgo Full Moon and Total Lunar Eclipse — March 14, 2025

ARIES — How is an unconscious or previously unknown limitation being reflected in a workplace situation, a coworker, the ways you’re of service, or in your mental and physical health? An unexpected resource is available to work with what’s showing up and release it.

TAURUS — Is all that you have to offer your community or social networks being reflected in your creativity? Or do those facets of your life feel like they’re at a stalemate? The only permission you need to do things differently comes from your own evolving inner reality.

GEMINI — Is a question of home or security in conflict with meeting the professional opportunities, obligations, or goals you’re reaching for? Unconscious impulses and reactions hold a clue to how you can shift that dynamic if you let them feed your inspiration or healing.

CANCER — What’s the relationship between your nitty-gritty, everyday thinking and your sense of responsibility to a broader, spiritual vision? A surprise from your social circles could inspire the clearing of some much-needed mental bandwidth, and realignment.

LEO — Is a contract of some kind up for renegotiation? Perhaps the soul contract you made for this lifetime? Detail your resources (material, emotional, & spiritual), and let a goal-related lightbulb moment open the way for rebalancing what has met its natural limit.

VIRGO — Notice how a particular relationship or event is either drawing you forward or presenting an obstacle. Either way, a strange or unexpected opportunity for a bird-eye-view perspective on the situation should help you tap the momentum needed for resolution.

LIBRA — What you hide from others you’ll likely hide from yourself, which means it can run the show. Some limiting matter of health or daily work-life balance is spotlighting this dynamic. Surprise yourself by sharing the “secret” to dissolve its power — and reclaim yours.

SCORPIO — Has something run its course in your social networks? It’s reflective of the energy you’re pouring into other forms of creative expression. A partner or friend going off-script could be just the gentle jolt you need to see how to clear space for a truer fit.

SAGITTARIUS — What’s coming to a head between your home life, emotional security, and career goals? An intuitive flash relating to physical or mental health in your day-to-day holds a key. Let it guide you toward the path forward. What’s no longer valid will fade away.

CAPRICORN — As you focus your energy on who and what is nearby, is a point of tension growing with your guiding spiritual philosophy? If a friend or neighbor inspires an atypical impulse in you, it could point you to a new “true north.” Notice the space opening up, and study it.

AQUARIUS — Is a stalemate brewing between what’s “yours” and how you’ve been sharing emotional, sexual, or financial power with someone? Those files are ready for updating. A sudden new insight about your evolving sense of security could open the way forward.

PISCES — If you feel at odds with a friend or partner, is the conflict really with them or with what they’re showing you about yourself? A surprising idea or change to your surroundings offers space for resolution, even healing, as something is released and a path appears.
