As I was preparing the chart this week for last night’s New Moon in Taurus (which was exact at 3:31 pm EDT, at 7° Taurus 47′; the Moon continues through Taurus today), I decided to check for any minor planets in alignment with it. (Scroll down for the horoscopes.)
I could have stuck with the major planets and had plenty to talk about. Consider the power struggle between the few techno-political elites who are running the U.S. government and nearly everybody else who’s digging in to turn courage and compassion into active resistance. The situation is amply described by the opposition between Pluto in Aquarius and Mars in Aries.

Although the Taurus Sun and Moon are separating from their T-square with the Mars-Pluto opposition at the moment of the New Moon, they were still within about four degrees of Mars and Pluto in that chart. Fixed signs tending toward attachment, I expect the tension of this aspect pattern is still looking for outlets as I write (which, true to a Taurus writing during a waning Moon during Taurus season, has been happening at its own leisurely pace).
But the separating nature of that T-square didn’t feel satisfying. I got curious about other elements of the chart. First, I checked the Sabian symbol: “A sleigh on land uncovered by snow.”
Dane Rhudyar’s keynote for this symbol reads, “The value of anticipating and preparing for expectable conditions.”
The rest of his interpretation discusses the value of accessing “future-oriented imagination” while relying on “the natural order of unfoldment of all life processes,” and using past knowledge and skills to meet the demands of a future yet to come.
That really hit home for me. I and most people I know seem to be treading this fine line between preparing for the worst and trying not to assume the worst so we don’t get overwhelmed and paralyzed. There is So. Much. History. that we can look to for examples of “expectable conditions” we would be wise to anticipate and prepare for.
And yet I don’t believe the future is a foregone conclusion. Not entirely. I want to hold space in my “future-oriented imagination” for outcomes that — while likely uncomfortable — are not complete horror and tragedy for the vast majority of people in this country and beyond. Outcomes that may still count as a “natural unfoldment,” though it will take so many of us collectively working to move the needle, and leaders willing to actually lead.
Which brings me, finally, back to those minor planets I mentioned. Using a tight one-degree orb, I discovered the following in the fixed signs in a grand cross with the Taurus Sun and Moon:
In Leo we have Trans-Neptunian Object (TNO) Varuna, named after a Hindu god of the waters. Varuna relates to law and order, one’s lasting legacy, oaths, and maintaining social structures. Two arc minutes away is the asteroid Karma, relating (no surprise) to the results of our actions, consequences, the balance of what we put out and receive, and “the aptness of the circumstances which assail us, for good or ill” (according to Alex Miller).
In Scorpio we find the asteroid Hekate. Hekate relates to inner sense, women’s knowing and whether one can trust that (according to Martha Lang-Wescott), acting as a protector or guardian, the crone stage of life, and wisdom gained at any major life passage. Also in Scorpio is Rhadamanthus, a TNO named for a mythical king of Crete. Rhadamanthus relates to integrity, justice, judgment, punishments, scrupulous honesty, inability to be swayed or corrupted, inflexibility, and strict adherence to the law.
Finally, in Aquarius there is a centaur planet named Amycus. The delineations I found for Amycus felt a little unclear and incomplete or untested (and in one online source, completely counter to what I was seeing in the centaur’s minimal mythology and from other trusted delineations). But it seems likely this object may relate to power (gaining or managing it), innocent victims of violence or getting caught up in violence, and the proper way to treat people (and the consequences for not doing so).
I don’t want to belabor these themes. I trust you can see their resonance with our current social, political, and economic turmoil. In the context of a New Moon in Taurus and its associations with what we possess, our values, using one’s voice, and steady perseverance, it’s an interesting collection.
What is percolating in the darkness of this New Moon space if we look at it from the perspective of women’s wisdom or our inner knowing, or integrity and justice? Is some type of Scorpionic transformation in the works?
The pressure being exerted by the consequences of past actions is obvious. The future legacy of our collective current actions are to some degree predictable — though to an extent not actually knowable yet. That gap feels slim, but is important.
Amycus in Aquarius seems like such a blatant symbol of both the 1% grabbing power and mismanaging it and the many innocent people getting caught by its violence, I shudder. Yet I’ve also been taught that the centaurs tend to relate to healing processes, often generational in nature and often arriving through crisis.
I can’t claim to know that’s definitely the case here. Then again, using all that we experience in life for our (eventual) healing and learning is a central tenet offered by my primary spiritual teachers. If that potential is a “natural unfoldment of all life processes,” maybe it can get a foothold during this New Moon.
Taurus is, after all, ruled by Venus, the goddess of love. I’d like to keep love as one of the “expectable conditions” I’m “anticipating and preparing for,” even while sandbagging other parts of my life against much more dire possibilities. I wish you well in your similar endeavors.
With love,
Amanda

Horoscopes for the Taurus New Moon, April 27, 2025 — and May
ARIES — By any chance have you been feeling inspired and clear lately about who you are at this point in your life? Or, on the other hand, are you starting to feel confused in ways you never used to? Either experience could describe Neptune’s recent entrance into your sign. And both are good reason to seek some extra grounding this month. You could start by pursuing anything that feels creative, playful, daring, pleasurable, or even dramatically adventurous, as such activities should be very satisfying outlets for your current energy. Another way in, particularly during this New Moon, is to contemplate all that you possess — both materially and in less tangible terms. (A spoken or written “gratitude rampage” can be helpful in this.) If that raises questions about consequences of past actions, future repercussions of current actions, or your legacy, all the better. Reconciling any tension between these topics and the question of “Who am I now?” will likely result in useful answers. At the very least, it should help strengthen the connection between your values and an important relationship.
TAURUS — “Before enlightenment: chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment: chop wood, carry water.” This familiar Zen koan describes well your steady manner, strength of perseverance, appreciation of the tangible, practical, and natural, and your affinity for routine. Now, as Uranus begins winding down its seven-year campaign of awakening and inspiration through your sign, would you say its many disruptions have at times offered moments of something like enlightenment? True, this has often felt more like getting zapped by an electric cattle prod than floating in a sunbeam. There has been loss and grief. And your learning is not over. But your experiences have likely reoriented your imagination in a way that will help you meet the wild, unknown future while still leaning on the values and skills that have carried you this far. Chances are, people are noticing the ways you’ve been changing. Even so, if you feel called to assist someone this month, let it be for its own sake: quietly selfless, and perhaps behind the scenes — like chopping wood and carrying water.
GEMINI — On the one hand, you may find yourself being drawn further within yourself this month. To a certain extent, this is an excellent use of your time and focus. You have an opportunity, beginning with this New Moon, to connect some dots between the mutual cause and effect relationship your thought patterns have with your daily habits and wellbeing. Reactions and behaviors that contradict your stated intentions and desires — and their consequences — are a prime starting place. On the other hand, how you’re showing up in your wider social circles also seems to have your attention. If you were to concoct your “dream scenario” for connecting with like-minded people, what might that look like? Don’t underestimate the potential benefit of taking even a small step in that direction now. Same with communicating your “secret” dream to a wider audience — even an audience of one. Assume the possibility that the universe is waiting patiently to support your efforts. Then test that hypothesis.
CANCER — If you think back to last year at this time, has anything changed in your social circles or in the way you’d like to interact with friends and collaborators? Yes or no, it may be time to revisit your aspirations in that department. What is your inner knowing whispering to you? It could be coming through creative projects you’re contemplating. In which case scrupulous honesty about whether they truly fit your current agenda and needs is crucial. This New Moon is inviting you to put your money where your mouth is, by connecting with the people who inspire you to go all-in on team efforts and community relationships — and on your own ideals. Yet stop short of viewing your social networks merely as cash cows. Doing so tends to result in pretty antisocial circumstances in the long run. Rather, show up fully as who you are and notice who shares your mission. This will support your ample energy this month to earn money and use your resources toward your goals, while helping you keep your values intact.
LEO — Have you recently had to navigate any kind of power struggle with a partner, friend, or some less magnanimous individual? Or is a recent interaction compelling you to change in significant ways? I see an indication that you’re feeling more motivated and expressive than you have in a while. (Okay, that’s probably an understatement: you may feel like gasoline’s been poured on a situation that had only been glowing embers a while ago.) Whatever the exact circumstances and their effect on you, see if you can take some time during this New Moon to regroup and shift your attention. Your career goals are coming into focus. This is one area of your life that tends to operate fairly dependably once you get the ball rolling. This month, consider whether there’s any tension between your professional activities or aspirations and the results of past actions. The more inspired you are to learn from (and about) this dynamic, the easier it should feel to take your natural lead. What kind of vision would you like to seed going forward?
VIRGO — Although you’re the most mentally oriented of the earth signs, you share their love of putting things to tangible, practical, and embodied use. In fact, this is a great month to focus on expanding your opportunities for experiential learning. What are you eager to dive into that either will benefit others from behind the scenes or that you can enjoy as a solo exploration? It appears these pursuits may offer the greatest satisfaction and least frustration for a few weeks. If your mind is mainly on your money or a merger of some kind (whether of businesses, bodies, or finances), are you perceiving the situation through the lens of risk or of creative opportunity? Both are valid. Noticing which perspective is guiding you simply informs your analysis. With this New Moon, you may only have to take modest action to get a sense of far-reaching effects either way. If you think of it like spreading a little fertilizer before planting, you may have an easier time appreciating whatever actually blooms.
LIBRA — You’ve recently entered a long-term phase of needing to be extra clear and communicative with partners, and of staying alert to what they are (or are not) sharing in return. This goes for partnerships of all sorts, whether romantic, business, or some other flavor. Luckily, your ruling planet, Venus, is about to move into your relationship sweet spot. This bodes well for harmony in all your one-to-one interactions for the next six weeks or so. The trick may be balancing the pleasant vibes and idealism with the practical realities and necessities of anyone you’re deeply enmeshed with. This New Moon offers an important checkpoint on that situation. What has the last year looked like in terms of the power, money, intimacy, and emotion involved? Have you gotten habituated to anything that runs counter to your values? What does your inner knowing say about it, and what’s your history of trusting that? Your answers are a valuable resource. Although the future is unknown, you have likely developed a wealth of skills for relating to others. Leaning into the more direct options now is like watering newly planted seeds rather than passively hoping for rain.
SCORPIO — Are you currently encountering a test of your integrity? If anybody has deep reserves of emotional fortitude to pull from to meet this, it’s you. But that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. Nor should you. Part of what seems to be feeding the equation is a renewed sense of vigor and desire regarding your professional goals. If that describes you, harness this energy and get moving. However, I also see some potential friction in that realm, possibly relating to effects of past actions or an authority figure feeling equally “invigorated.” If you’ve recently experienced any kind of shakeup to your sense of security, or tension between your work ambitions and home life, your inner compass might not be feeling as trustworthy as usual. If so, notice who is showing up as a steady friend, potential collaborator, or romantic partner around this New Moon. You don’t tend to let others know your needs and vulnerabilities easily. However, leaning into these relationships should help you move forward with what matters most to you.
SAGITTARIUS — You likely have a great deal of physical and mental stamina. But how easy is it for you to take that for granted, staying in overdrive when it comes to work or serving the causes you hold dear? If you’re the humanitarian type of Sadge, that’s especially possible give the current state of the world. One of the things this New Moon suggests for you is to pause long enough to be sure your body is healthy. As you take stock, ask yourself how you can tweak your workday and general habits to improve efficiency. You’ve recently received an energy infusion that could propel you to a new level of understanding — especially if something in your immediate environment recently reached a crisis or upended one of your core beliefs. The more you can listen to your inner knowing rather than lean on dogma, the more likely you are to tease out the true relationship between cause and effect in that situation. It might feel like that engraving of a figure lifting up a corner of the sky to reveal the workings of the universe.
CAPRICORN — What would feel enjoyable to you this month? I don’t mean simply satisfying; you tend to get plenty of satisfaction from work. I’m talking about the kind of pleasure that has no preconceived outcome, little purpose beyond excitement or experimentation, and zero obligation to anybody else. If you’re not even sure what you’d enjoy, perhaps take inventory of your five senses. Have you been neglecting any of them (such as by eating foods that fill you but offer little interest for your taste buds)? That might be a place to start exploring with this New Moon. It’s easy to reach for the same tried-and-true pleasures and creative outlets, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But in this digital age it’s helpful to shift the intellect to the back seat regularly and allow the body’s direct experience lead you to something new. You may also find this sensory check-in raises your awareness of the physical condition of your home and the relationships within it over the coming weeks. If “harmony and comfort” do not describe your living space, you have support in moving closer to those ideals.
AQUARIUS — I trust you’re well aware that “home” means not only the structure where you dwell, but even more importantly the people closest to you and how you feel in your own skin. As you turn your focus to these facets of your life this month, are there any loose ends you need to tend? This could be anything from a half-completed room renovation to a family situation left in limbo, or even something brought up in therapy that could stand a deeper look. Your New Moon opportunity appears ripe for bringing it to conclusion — or to its next level. Think of it as preparing the ground prior to planting. Pay particular attention to a partner or friend who’s pointing out the role you play in maintaining your social structures. They’re offering a reminder that what you put out into the world and what you receive from it may look different to others than it does to you. Is this a matter of imbalance or simply one of perspective?
PISCES — Your ability to be of service to those around you — something you value highly — depends in large part on your willingness to allow their opinions and needs to enter the equation. That may sound obvious. It may be something you’re sensitive to daily as a kind of dharma. Yet it’s also possible for you to get a little stubborn in your thinking, especially if someone seems to approach you with a foregone conclusion (even when they’re right). You have an opportunity with this New Moon to hear those around you more clearly. However, you appear more in a mood to express your thoughts this month, and to pour your energy into work that satisfies yourself the most. What you’re able to accomplish (and get credit for) at work will likely be a direct result of your encounters with friends, neighbors, and associates right now. Notice the connection, and any tension you feel around it. What you plant now could seed quite a social legacy. What do you want to be known for? And how might listening carefully serve that?
