Hello! A quick note: I wrote these eclipse season horoscopes at the bottom of this page for a webinar I gave recently that was hosted by someone who coaches entrepreneurs, hence each sign gets some mention of “business” in some capacity — but you don’t need to own a business to benefit from these overview of September’s astrological highlights! Please let me know how they land for you (before, during, or after eclipse season).

Given the completely overwhelming and uncertain state of things here in the U.S., I would understand if it feels hard (impossible?) to be introspective, or to even consider personal personal growth; or maybe that feels like about all you can do? I’ve certainly struggled to even use astrology to contextualize the ongoing assault on the common good.

In that light, I offer what is written here in the hope that it serves your ability to keep moving forward through life with empathy, courage, curiosity, and connection with others, through this month and beyond. May the horoscopes aid you in using your gifts to uplift and support all living beings.

For some seasonal context, here are some Virgo basics to consider:

Virgo is a mutable earth sign and ruled by Mercury, the planet of the mind. This translates to Virgo’s energy relating to how we bring ideas into the material plane.

Directed constructively (such as in service to a higher cause or true vision, rather than over-focused on criticizing the details), there is an element of ‘if you can dream it, you can do it’ to Virgo. Or, perhaps more accurately, if you can plan it and organize it, you can do it — though the dream or vision part of the equation comes through Virgo’s complementary sign, Pisces, on the other side of the wheel.

Working in service of a worthy goal is an excellent expression of Virgo — one reason why ‘teacher’ and ‘nurse’ are so often quoted as stereotypical Virgo professions. Yet in that act of working toward something, Virgo’s mutable quality tends to lend flexibility rather than the dogged stubbornness of, say, Taurus. All of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) describe shifting from something being fixed in place to starting something new — like the loosening of the current season as we prepare to start a new one.

Virgo’s place in the seasonal wheel always carries a certain poignancy to me. For one, I love summer: long, warm days; as much swimming as I can squeeze in; lush flowers and local fruits and veggies; bountiful opportunities for outdoor socializing and deep morning meditation on the beach. Yet even if you don’t care for summer’s heat and humidity, Virgo heralds the beginning of the end of summer growth in the Northern Hemisphere. Peak harvest is about to start trailing off, the long afternoon shadows fall noticeably sooner, the nights are chillier.

Even if you’re not “going back to school” and don’t have kids, that imprint lingers: time to prepare for a new phase of the year. Time to “get serious” again: more adult, more planned, more scheduled, more focused on specifics and tangibles and outcomes.

In other words: time to assess and analyze your summer’s harvest, whether literally, professionally, emotionally, spiritually, or in some other way. I’m always reminded of the parable of the grasshopper and the ant this time of year, as I try to gauge whether I’ve been more of a fun-loving grasshopper, who now has to scramble to get ready for the demands and challenges of autumn and winter, or more of an ant who’s been industriously laboring all season, fully aware of the swiftly approaching future.

In a recent newsletter, my friend and astrology colleague Amanda Moreno focused on this theme of “preparation” that Virgo carries. She astutely connected it beyond the personal, everyday, back-to-school vibe and “winter is coming” sensation to more existential forms of preparation; for instance, in relation to the types of collective collapse we’re witnessing around us. Amanda M. also underscored the ways that utilizing Virgo’s powers of noticing and understanding patterns can aid the necessary preparation — and reduce the anxiety it can provoke.

Astrology, like the sign Virgo, asks us to notice. Astrology is a practice of cultivating inner awareness, relational awareness, and environmental awareness in a way that allows meaning to filter out through the chaos, and a path to emerge through even the densest forest.

With all of that in mind, here’s what’s approaching on the near horizon. I may offer some additional thoughts specific to September’s two eclipses on my Facebook page; we’ll see. The dates below also highlight some of the non-eclipse astrological events that I’ve noted in these horoscopes, depending on the sign.

Sept. 1: retrograde Saturn backs our of Aries and returns to Pisces

Sept. 4: Mars in Libra square Jupiter in Cancer; Uranus stations retrograde in Gemini

Sept. 7: at 2:09 pm EDT: Pisces Full Moon (opposite the Virgo Sun) and a total lunar eclipse

Sept. 18-19: Mercury enters Libra; Venus enters Virgo and squares Uranus

Sept. 21 at 3:54 pm EDT: Virgo New Moon and partial solar eclipse

Sept. 22-24: Mars enters Scorpio and squares Pluto in Aquarius; Sun enters Libra and opposes Neptune

Finally, some basic eclipse housekeeping:

Regarding everything below, your mileage my vary depending on the specifics of your own birth chart! If an eclipse is in contact with certain planets or sensitive areas in your chart, it could manifest in dramatic ways. If an eclipse does not contact anything significant in your chart, it could feel quite subtle. In either case, you can use the energy intentionally. (You can also contact me for an astrology consultation, and we’ll consider these eclipses and more in the context of your full birth chart.)

The couple of days on either side of eclipses — and the two weeks between a pair of eclipses — are important windows for setting new patterns, releasing what no longer serves, and moving toward what you want more of — as well as moving toward the unknown of your own exciting becoming.

Traditional wisdom is to respond fully to synchronicity and sudden changes that arrive on your doorstep, but to initiate your own changes in small or incremental ways. My former astrology mentor often offers the image of being in a canoe on a river approaching rapids: the idea is to get your canoe pointed with the current, rather than trying to paddle against it or across it. You want to move consciously with the flow of energy.

Whatever emerges for you in September, may you meet it with curiosity and flexibility. May it serve your further healing and growth, and by extension that of the entire planet.

With love,

Amanda

September Eclipse/Virgo Season Horoscopes

ARIES

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Something unconscious comes to a head or culminates, related either to your day-to-day operations, being of service, or your physical & mental health. This situation or awareness is insisting you face the truth, let go of what’s not working, and get intentional with the space that gets cleared. Articulating how you’re feeling, especially any fears, should help dissolve any obstacles, and open the way for aligned action in service to your greater mission.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: Get super intentional about your health, your work-life balance, and your day-to-day activities today. Lean into what’s working and what you want more of in your daily routines, exercise, how you eat, etc. in the couple days leading up to this New Moon and after. If it feels like a low-energy day, listen to your body & communicate what’s up to those around you — they may inspire you!

Sept. 22-24: Your 1:1 relationships get your full attention! Who wants to play and co-create? For the next 30 days, who are the professionals you need to consult with?

In terms of people you’re invested in or with (financially or emotionally; on a business or personal level) what are you being confronted with? Do you feel motivated to go deeper? Or are you encountering some irritation or ego conflict? Regarding your professional teams or community groups, who is showing up ready to help you change the world — or, who seems to be standing in your way? Either way, this is not a time to take shortcuts or to be anything other than forthright. Stay above board, track the ways you’re being asked to evolve in a close partnership or group/team, and enlist your supporters.

TAURUS

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse:

Your creativity isn’t just for fun: it’s a key way for you to share your innate genius with the world. Who in your community networks or professional teams is mirroring this back to you? What are they revealing? Has a particular type of public interaction, content creation, or other self-expression run its course? Do you need to de-clutter your art studio or step back from a particular way you’ve been showing up in your community?

Sept. 20-21 Virgo New Moon & Solar Eclipse: Just ahead of the second eclipse, you’ll likely feel a spike in playfulness and creativity, but in very specific, process-oriented ways; it might feel super-fun to plan, or to enlist a romantic partner in these activities, but in unexpected, atypical ways. This may seem at odds with how you’re currently earning your income, yet could also spark some major innovations in that department. Do follow intuitive sparks. Just beware of taking impulsive, major risks where spending is concerned. Dare yourself to plant small yet concrete seeds now for the adventures you’d like your business to take in the next 6-12 months.

Sept. 22-24: As your focus shifts toward your health and daily work tasks for the next 30 days, pay particular attention to any 1:1 personal or business relationship that’s getting energized in a way that motivates you — or that’s feeling like a source of conflict. Even if it’s not a professional relationship, how you work with this person could either fuel your professional goals or become a power struggle that could undermine those goals. Take time to deal with this person directly and fairly to move your professional evolution forward rather than block it.

GEMINI

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: This could be a moment of truth between your home life and your professional aspirations. Who is showing up in your career realm, and what are they showing you about how secure you feel, and what you need to feel safe? What old stories about safety and success are ready to fall away so you can write new ones that match who you’re becoming?

Sept. 18-19: (and maybe a day or two before and after), could be a very creative, inventive, intuitive couple days but could also be confusing or unclear, particularly with regard to social interactions or any groups your work impacts. Take lots of notes on your inspirations, and take extra care with communications. If you’re making any major or very public decisions could impact lots of people, you might consider waiting a couple days to see if anything clarifies.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: This energy is focused in your zone of home and emotional security. What are the updates you need to make in this realm in the next 6-12 months, and what wheels can you begin putting in motion now? Between your social aspirations and ideals and your current professional reality, there’s a sweet spot you can aim for. But the inside job of feeling at home in your own skin is the starting point right now.

CANCER

Sept. 4: What actions can you take around your home that can positively impact the ways you show up in the world? You may feel highly motivated to enhance your sense of security, which dovetails with how you’re likely feeling more confident and at home than usual in putting yourself out there. That said, if your domestic space is not supportive currently, you may need to watch for unconscious irritations and address them, so they don’t undermine your wiliness to show up fully in your business.

Sept. 7 Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Pay attention to the ways certain beliefs shape how you think and communicate as this Full Moon approaches! This eclipse looks like it may draw back the veil on certain ideas (matters of spirituality) that no longer support who you’re growing into — or the message you have to share with the world. What are you being shown about how you function in your immediate environment vs. the ways you’re being called to expand in your life’s mission?

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: Dreams and distant shores may call you forward, but the first steps to get there must always be taken right where you are. This may be your ideal backwards engineering New Moon, so be sure to get those notes down in some concrete form, and then take the first tangible step in the process. What positive new patterns of thinking and communication do you want to carry forward in the coming months? Start now.

LEO

Sept. 7 Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Is something being revealed about an investment, or a relationship in which you are deeply invested and enmeshed (whether professionally, financially, emotionally, or sexually — or some combination)? If anything in this realm leaves at this time, it is departing so that you can evolve. It’s also possible an investment culminates in some way. Pay attention to the specifics of how this impacts your individual earned income, your possessions, and your sense of self-worth — and what you’ve attached to these things. Space for something better is being made.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: What are your intentions for how you can better use your resources to be of even greater service — to your customers or clients, to your loved ones, to your greater community, to the highest good of all? Even if you need to put stronger boundaries around an investment right now, do so with one eye on your vision for how you’d like to expand your reach or your perspective. Identify specific actions that can start making your income intentions tangible reality. Consider getting clearer on how your sense of worth is inherent, separate from your service and your money.

Sept. 23-24:  Watch for a potential power struggle between your desire for security and a business or romantic partner, or someone who’s confronting you. The deeper you can go in understanding what you want and why you want it — including what feeling “safe” really means for you — the more leverage you’ll discover for finding a win-win action that can help the relationship evolve to the next level.

VIRGO

September’s astrology involves your sign and your sign-ruler (Mercury) in more ways than I can cover well in brief here! And your big month actually starts Aug. 22-23, as the Sun and then Moon both enter Virgo and meet up for the first of two New Moons in your sign. This first New Moon is your pre-eclipse heads up to identify where you need to begin making incremental adjustments in your day-to-day operations, and also with regard to any joint finances or other shared resources you hold with someone, whether an intimate partner or business partner.

This New Moon on Aug. 23 also could feel challenging with regard to impulses to do things radically differently with your career. The more consciously and deliberately you can experiment, rather than firing off on impulse, the less disruptive it should be to your long-term goals and anyone you’re in business with.

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: This is all about your individual relationships. Who is showing up, and who are they revealing themselves to be? Who have you been in relation to them, and does that need to change? Has a particular pattern of relating with a business partner, intimate partner, or friend run its course?

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: You may be asked revisit obligations to and demands from a partner of some kind, and there may be some confusion about an investment or someone you currently share resources with. As important as these matters are to sort out, this eclipse suggests that serving your deeper mission would benefit from total concentration on what is true for you now, and an awareness that the only steps you can take are forward, not backwards.

LIBRA

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Who’s the person in your workplace or realm of service who’s either showing you their true colors or showing you your own? No matter how uncomfortable it may be, claim how you’re feeling. Chances are this will help you release something you’ve been insisting must be part of your daily routine, but which you’ve unconsciously needed to face and let go of. Opening up that space could reinvigorate your day-to-day business operations.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: While all the other signs are setting conscious intentions with this eclipse, what can you do to tap into your unconscious intentions and begin drawing them into your awareness? Deep meditation, dream journaling, automatic writing, even teasing out the threads of a health obsession or fear could help…you might even consider any knee-jerk reactions to a work-related obligation as clues to help you sense the current and move with it.

Sept. 22-24: With the Sun now in your sign your creativity and inspiration should start to flow better and light up your ability to show up fully in your business. Any continued confusion or idealization around a partner in business or romance still calls for a “wait and see” approach. However, you should feel more energized and self-directed in your ability to negotiate with them.

SCORPIO

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: If you tend to be very particular about how you show up in public — the kinds of selfies you post for your online promotion, the kinds of events you will or will not consider for networking, etc. — or if you’re a perfectionist toward your work teams, notice if something or someone compels you to loosen that up. Your zone of playful self-expression may reveal at this time a new way to include more of you and your creativity in the world. But accessing it may mean releasing ideas about who you can be in public.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: Who do you need to meet, and who can you ask to make the necessary introductions in your various networks, for you to offer your gifts to the world more fully — and ensure your business can have the impact you desire while serving the highest good? Where can you find the win-win relationships? This is about connecting the dots, not pushing the river.

Spt. 22-24: You’ll likely feel newly energized to push ahead with your eclipse intentions, but watch for any tension around whether you feel “secure” enough to go for it. Big changes at home, or someone who reminds you of old insecurities from childhood, may need conscious investigation and reconciliation first, if they show up. Get to the root of this tension rather than pushing past it to best clear the way for momentum.

SAGITTARIUS

(Leading up to) Sept. 4: If you’ve been thinking about applying for a business loan, courting investors, or looking for ways to pool resources with others, consider putting those wheels in motion (in modest ways) in the days approaching Sept. 4. Keep looking for the win-win scenarios. It’s not only about what you want or how much you can give, but an equitable blend.

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Has this year required you to keep shoring up your inner boundaries or your sense of security (or even work on your literal home in some way)? Keep your antennae tuned for old emotional patterning around these themes that is ready to wash away. Possibly you’ve considered this emotional pattern a safe harbor of sorts. But it looks like it’s actually the thing you need to release so you can stretch toward your professional goals with greater agility.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: The past is the past. Do the inner work you need to do, and let your sense of fun and adventure inspire creative new ways to play in your work. But in the lead-up to this eclipse, and during it, be sure to focus on what is true for your business now. Who are you in the process of becoming as an entrepreneur? What new ally is showing up in your professional spaces in a new way? What partnership is provoking you to pursue your goals in innovative ways?

CAPRICORN

Sept 1: You may need to revisit recent work you thought you’d completed around thought patterns and your daily environment. You likely made significant improvements in this realm the last couple years, and now you can see that last bit of restructuring or fine-tuning that will better support your ability to communicate more effectively, especially in your business.

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Watch for an old, long-standing attitude that is ready to be shed. This may show up in contrast to what you’re learning spiritually (whether on your own or from a mentor). Or you may get shown how this emotional-mental posture has been holding you back from the kind of global exploring or next-level learning that could really open your capacity to show up for your goals.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: You can’t think your way to “enlightenment” and nobody can do the work for you. But you can give yourself the gift of total focus when the doors open to key phases growth. Whatever your meditative or mind-expanding practices may be, this eclipse’s potential for you appears to be about heightened noticing of your own inner voice, more than acting on it. This is true even if a literal distant horizon beckons and you travel to it.

AQUARIUS

Sept. 4-6: Your creative experiments and playful innovations the last several months have been fueling some deep inner evolution, and it’s all been like holding a match to kindling in terms of updating your attitudes and mental habits. Pay particular attention in early September to any urges to pivot or revisit prior inspirations you did not follow, and take notes. These may come in handy months from now.

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Watch for signs that your values may be shifting, particularly in relation to jointly held assets and investments, or a deep emotional bond with a business or intimate partner. You may also find that emotions come up around what is strictly “yours,” whether money or other possessions. How fluid can you be around this? It’s all just an energy exchange, after all. Whether a partnership is culminating or releasing, look for the win-win in whatever space is opening.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: Keep your eyes open for a new opportunity for investment or merging in a business partnership, or in any close relationship where power is shared. Get specific with your intentions and the small but tangible step toward it that you can take now, especially if the overarching goal of this relationship or contract is service. There’s potential for deep, soul-level transformation, but it requires focus on what’s actually true now, not what you’d like to think is true.

PISCES

Sept. 1: It looks like you’ve really been getting going on some inspired financial or material restructuring, and there will be more of that a few months from now. But this month, you may need to turn inward again. Revisit the practices or people that have offered dependable containers, and trust that what you learn about yourself will be exactly what you need to know to show up for your business with greater clarity.

Sept. 7 Pisces Full Moon & lunar eclipse: Your direct 1:1 encounters are lighting up this month. With this eclipse, notice who’s seeing you for who you truly are on a deep level. You might be surprised by how much you’re revealing, but that’s exactly what you want — even if it means you’re being seen in all your quirky, beautiful contradictions. Letting the mask drop feels vulnerable, but it can open up space for the most authentic business and personal relationships yet.

Sept. 21 Virgo New Moon & solar eclipse: What kind of relationships are you ready to call in, whether of a business or intimate variety? Even the most beneficial relationships can be messy at times, so beware of looking to them for perfection. Instead, notice who’s showing up on the same wavelength of desiring to be of impeccable service to a higher mission. These are your people. That said, these partnerships may not blossom immediately. You can still plant the seeds and keep them warm as they develop over the coming months, and that in itself is a benefit.
