Sometimes when I’m trying to write about the current astrology, it suddenly hits me that I’m basically living the dynamics at play. For example, I have been trying to write about tonight’s Libra Full Moon (which is exact at 8:2 pm EDT) for a few days: I keep facing the chart for this event head-on, but I only get so far before I find myself needing to adjust my approach because it doesn’t feel quite right.

There will be a flash of insight, but then trying to pursue it either hits a wall or feels “off.” Something about it rubs me the wrong way. I’ll notice a new way in, feel a moment of relief and movement, and then there’s that sense of irritation again — with my writing, with my inability to think “better,” with the seeming lack of simple message to capture the essence of the astrology.

Although this photo was taken on the day of the New Moon and solar eclipse of March 29 (rather than during a Full Moon), it just feels so Venus-in-Pisces to me: all soft and dreamy. Photo by Amanda Painter, viewing the Grand Canyon from along Hermit’s Rest Drive at sunset.

It’s like I can’t figure out what I want to say/hear/do, but I also can’t sit still. I need to express something. I’ve felt sudden “lightbulb” moments, sudden moments of apparent intuition, but then where do those flashes go when I try to type them out?

So here’s all that mapped out onto the chart for the Full Moon:

– Facing something head on: The Moon in Libra facing the Sun in Aries across the zodiac (and from opposite sides of planet Earth). If you’re not in a stalemate with a project or pushing something toward completion, consider whether you’re facing a person or situation that feels either like a dance, conflict, or stalemate.

– Feeling the inner tension of needing to express something: the Sun (and Moon) moving into square aspects with Mars (the action planet) in Cancer. This could manifest as reactivity, passive aggression, or indirectness as well as more creative or caring activity.

– The need to keep readjusting as successive “solutions” only get things so far: as the Moon slides into place in late Libra, it will complete a pattern called a “yod.” (I’ll post the chart below to illustrate.)

Yods happen when one planet is in direct contact with two (or more) planets that are one sign off from being exactly opposite — an aspect called a quincunx. In this case, the Moon is quincunx Uranus in Taurus on one side, and quincunx Venus and Saturn in Pisces to the other side.

Venus, Saturn, and Uranus are working together in harmony. On their own, they describe sudden flashes of insight, disruption to routines (or the body), and intuition/empathy and creativity combining with some stability or structure to help bring them forth. But in their quincunx relationships to the Libra Moon, those bursts and opportunities never quite feel “just right.”

Libra Moons describe a constant search for balance, equilibrium, and harmony. Quincunx aspects describe a continual inability to find it.

Perhaps you’re beginning to better understand my dilemma.

(It also just so happens that the yod pattern involved with tonight’s Full Moon is also in direct contact with a yod that I have in my natal chart. No wonder its itchy-scratchy discomfort feels so damn personal!)

For its part, the Sun is closely flanked by Chiron and Eris in Aries. These Aries planets, added to a yod and opposite the “focal point” or “apex” of the Moon, transform the pattern into what some astrologers call a “boomerang.” The term describes how these additional planets in that position give an outlet for all the energy that’s having a hard time finding a constructive, satisfying outlet in the yod.

The Sun (and co.) opposite the Moon in this boomerang yod describes how you can use the Full Libra Moon’s energy to your advantage. It offers a point of focus — possibly even an understanding what the goal of all the constant adjusting will be.

So what do the objects in this particular “boomerang” position describe?

Sun: vital life force seeking active expression in the world; how you shine out who you are

Eris: some kind of discord, particularly around some part of yourself you’ve had to push aside, hide, or ignore

Chiron: a process of raising and focusing awareness for the purpose of healing, especially on a deep, soul level

In Aries, these three objects suggest their themes are playing out in some part of your chart and your life where you strongly identify — and where perhaps there have been some major disruptions, questions, advancements, or changes, especially related to the most recent eclipses.

I would even suggest you look to the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse for additional clues. That New Moon and eclipse was precisely conjunct Chiron in Aries. And at the same moment, retrograde Mercury was precisely conjunct Eris.

In this Full Moon chart, Mercury and the lunar North Node in Pisces are in direct harmony with Mars in Cancer. Mercury and the North Node are also exactly square the Galactic Center, our so-called “cosmic homing signal.” There’s something here about getting your mind oriented on your deeper purpose here on Earth, connecting with the all-that-is, and letting it inform your actions.

This season keeps handing us these direct links to the spring eclipses of last year and this year, and to some essential processes of healing deep, old wounds and our greater spiritual compass.

Are you getting the messages?

Now, in taking this particular route into describing the Full Moon, I kind of buried the lead: this peak of lunar energy is arriving concurrent with Venus stationing direct in Pisces. That happens about 40 minutes after the Full Moon, at 9:02 pm EDT.

As mentioned, Venus is talking directly to the Full Moon configuration, the awakening influence of Uranus, the sobering influence of Saturn, the motivating influence of Mars, and the incomprehensible large, distant, and impossible-to-see-directly deep-space center of our very Milky Way galaxy.

So in addition to being a symbol of some kind of review process of our relationships and values, Venus — the planet of love — appears determined to remind us of the simple thing at the very heart of all the rest of it:

Love.

That is, love in all its forms: personal, romantic, platonic, brotherly, familial, creative, compassionate, affectionate, passionate, universal…all the ways we can connect with each other to transcend the obstacles, frustrations, irritations, and outright evil that we encounter daily. Venus has asked us to backtrack from the self-focused passion of Aries to the selfless merging of Pisces, and now we’re here. Now. Possibly irritated, possibly in conflict. But with all the tools we need to move through it all to something more loving.

Sometimes astrologers talk about the potential for former loves to pop out of the woodwork during a Venus retrograde. I’ve been keeping an eye out for this, but hadn’t really noticed anything meaningful. Then, a couple days ago, **I** became the ex to blip onto someone’s radar unexpectedly. I knew exactly that I was “doing that Venus retro thing” and really wanted to avoid it so as not to become a living asrtro-cliché.

But after having a series of dreams in which that ex appeared, and then his mom (wearing two watches on one wrist), and then one of his beloved late cats who hopped into my lap and started purring, I figured “What the hell?” and sent him a friendly email. (And yes, he sent a friendly reply.)

It almost felt like the universe was saying to me:

Why not go full retrograde Venus stationing?

Why not go full Full Moon?

Why not go full Mars in Cancer square Chiron, the Sun, and Eris in Aries?

Why not go full boomerang yod?

Why not go full Uranus in Taurus conjunct my own natal Mercury and yod, and full Full Moon lighting up my Chiron-Uranus opposition?

Why not go full Saturn, Lord of Linear Time, and full Chiron, Lord of spiral/Chirotic Time, both insisting I use my time better and add another layer to the spiral?

Why not go full North Node and Galactic Core stepping into the “what if / what’s next” and “All One”?

Why not just be the astrology already??

Maybe I can’t truly give insight or advice this time, but just show up as an example, an illustration?

I don’t have a succinct, sassy, or sensitive way to conclude this piece. And the clock is ticking rapidly. So I’m just going to leave it here.

YMMV. Please pipe up in the comments to tell me how you’re experiencing all this astro, if at all. It’s kind of wild. And, weirdly, it’s also kind of subtle if you’re not open to noticing it.

With love,

Amanda
